Turkey, Fishing, Cold Weather, Work and Rock n Roll. in that order.

So I'll keep this succinct.

I drove the overnight to Baudette MN - the northern hinterland I call home on the canadien border. Know that little bump on the top of the state? That's where it is. Thanksgiving day was a day for family, and I have to admit, it was really nice coming home to hang out with family. I recently watched the movie Click with Adam Sandler in it and I am sooooo not a bathroom humor type of person but the movie was pretty funny, thought provoking, and sentimental in all the right places. I was pretty surprised by it, frankly, as I was with Sandler's Mr. Deeds, which is one of my favorite films in the goofy comedy genre. He has some genuine talent - if he would ditch the shtick and do something with it, I'd cast him in a serious role in a heartbeat. The point is, the movie got my attention with it's main message - that life flies at warp speed and if you focus on the wrong things, you miss the things that matter most - like family. So I have to admit I was really affected by the film - it's just what I needed to be reminded of. There is also another (bigger reason) I was affected, but I will post about that seperately.

On Turkey Day, I enjoyed a huge feast of the usual T-Giving goodness of turkey , cranberries blah blah. Nummy. I also got to reflect a bit and just enjoy the family vibe. I got to meet my two step nieces finally, as my step sister and her family moved in with my parents for awhile. Those girls are sure cute, and really really smart! I'll be posting a video at some point I think.

On Friday we cleaned up a building on my folks property they have been dying to organize for what seems like years. Well, it actually has been years, and now it is done. woohoo. Today I slept in and then went fishing. Yes, it was like 25-32 degrees and the wind was blowing, so it was damn cold, but my cousin Scott obliged and took me and my dad out in his boat on the Rainy River, which would normally be frozen solid by now except for the unusually high temps. Global warming does have it's benefits for those of us in northern Minnesota, let me tell you. (sorry Erik. Will you still be my friend?) I caught the most fish - it was fun actually catching something, and I got the hits all day long. I was extremely surprised but no one got skunked. Everyone caught something. We landed 8 fish, which should have been 9 but I blew it on one of them, and didn't set my hook good enough. In any case, it was good frosty cold weather fun. I drive back on Sunday, and prepare for a huge meeting at Carmicheal Lynch on Tues, which may determine the direction of my life in the near future if all goes well. Wish me luck.

Then that night (Tues)I practice again with my band, which remains nameless at the moment. WE are currently without a bass player although we are still working out the songs and it sounds pretty darn good - like a 'real' band and not some hacks. I am super excited to hear these songs come together. I should have done this years ago. I got lucky so far. My drummer (Chris) and my 2nd guitarist (Tom) are great musicicans and have been totally willing to do whatever I want musically to see my vision come to light. What a total blessing. We are seeking a really kick ass bass player though. Send 'em my way!!

So thats my life this week. Just the facts.
